STOP THE HIGH-RISK POWER CABLES
In Sea Girt, Manasquan, Wall, Howell

GOOD NEWS

We start the New Year with great news and optimism that the high-risk power cable project will not happen in the next several years – if it happens at all.  As you know, without offshore wind, there is no need for the high-risk power cable project.  The Trump administration dealt a serious blow to Governor Murphy’s offshore wind development plan.

Mike Dean of Save The East Coast says “The magnitude of the impact of the new administration’s Offshore Wind Executive Order and National Energy Emergency declaration cannot be overstated. It’s a game changer.”

  • Until last week, the offshore wind industry enjoyed the full economic support and legal protections of the federal government. Now it’s s facing an administration determined to stop projects in the US.

  • Existing leaseholders will face major legal challenges and long expensive battles to move their projects forward.

  • Experts predict that industry players like Orsted, Equinor, Avangrid, Shell, EDF, Ocean Winds will likely cancel projects.

While there has been no official word from the NJ BPU cancelling or pausing the high-risk power cable project, we’re breathing a sigh of relief. That said, we remain vigilant and will continue to monitor and share on any relevant developments.

For now, let’s celebrate the victory. Thanks to the commitment and tireless efforts of so many, we put a spotlight on the issue and our voices were heard.

Our heartfelt appreciation for all of your support.

October 6 Rally A Huge Success

Thank you to everyone who turned out at the Rally on Sunday. Over the course of the two hours, we estimate about 500 people participated. We had good media participation. In addition to our local outlets, a videographer from the Fox News Philadelphia was attending with his sister who lives on the bike path. He interviewed several supporters and filed a feature that ran Sunday evening.

Many of you
are wondering about the Governor. Did he see us; did he hear us? The answer is a resounding yes. Not surprisingly, Governor Murphy’s arrival lacked transparency. His motorcade’s flashers were turned off as his SUV quietly entered town. But thanks to alert onlookers he was spotted on Sea Girt Avenue around 9:30 and was met by a sea of protest signs and vocal rally signs.

We appreciate all of you who chose to standup and show up. You made it a great day. Click her to see photos of the event.

What We're Fighting

Sea Girt, Manasquan, Wall and Howell are the target communities for bringing offshore wind energy onshore. The infrastructure project includes up to 6,400 megawatts, underground, EMF cables running within 10-15 yards of homes, schools businesses and recreation areas. This is almost  10 times the power of the recently closed Oyster Creek nuclear plant. The federal government admits that the health and environmental risks are unknown. No project of this magnitude has been tested anywhere in the world.

Stop The High-Risk Power Cables is a bipartisan, grass roots, self-funded group of concerned citizens. We demand a halt to this project until the risks are objectively evaluated and health, well-being and safety can be ensured.
